Finding Old Beer Cans Cheap or Free

Many Americans have collected beer cans as a past time for decades and today a new breed of collectors exists. For the new collectors the hardest part, and part of the fun, is finding new ways to get old cans. If you are new to this hobby, or even a seasoned pro, here is a few new low tech as well as high tech ways to get the best cans out there.

Conventions are held around the country that provides collectors a way to have access to old cans. At these conventions many traders will give you sometimes up to 4 cans for 1 depending on the brand and condition of the can. This is good if you have cans that you don't particularly care for but if you want to get cans and keep what you have; you will have to get creative with your searching.

Old abandon houses, barns, sheds, cabins, cars, junk piles, and old family dumps can yield vital cans of a variety of conditions. This is where most collectors will find their most prized cans but often times you may find a can that is dirty or rusted. There is an easy restoration process that can be done to renew these old cans.

Using citric acid, lemon juice is best since it contains a lower amount of natural sugar; lightly dampen a clean lint free cloth. The citric acid is strong enough to rough rust and debris without damaging the exterior paint. Often times this will make cans look brand new. This is best for found cans but often times purchased cans will not need this treatment.

Flea markets, garage and yard sales, estate sales, as well as in person auctions are a great way to find new cans at a low price. Depending on what you are willing to pay these are great places to find hard to find cans from other collectors and people who are just trying to clean out their garages. Flea markets are a good place to find people who are willing to make a deal for a large amount of cans but the internet has given us another option.

E-Bay is a great place to go to find wholesale lots of old beer cans and usually is much more affordable then going to dealers themselves. Many people post them in online auctions never knowing the true value of what they have but this is a great way for you as a collector to sneak in and get a great deal. If you utilize all the tools you have available to you, you will have a prized beer can collection in time.
